Three Beach Locations on the Eastern Shore Will Not Have Lifeguard Supervision

Public Service Announcement

(Wednesday, June7/2000)-- Three beach locations on the Eastern Shore will not have lifeguard supervision or swimming lessons this summer.

Malay Falls Beach, in Sheet Harbour; the Government Wharf, in Musquodoboit Harbour; and Conrad's Beach, in Conrad's Settlement, are the three sites affected.

The reason for the disruption in service is due to the shortage of qualified staff in the area. The HRM Beach Program is working to correct this shortage and create a sustainable staff resource for future years.

HRM is recruiting youths, ages 14 and up to provide training and certification opportunities. Any youth with an interest in becoming a Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor is asked to contact the Beach Office at 490-5458.

HRM plans to offer programs at these sites next year and regrets any disruption in services for this season.
