First Stage of Culling Process Completed

(Thursday, August 10/2000)-- Halifax Regional Municipality has been advised by the Brown Longhorn Beetle Task Force that the selective cut to remove infested trees in Zone 1 (the south-west quadrant of Point Pleasant Park) will be completed by the end of today.

Boundary tape around the zone to ensure public safety will be removed and the area is expected to be re-opened to the public tomorrow morning.

The removal of infested trees in Zone 2, the north-west quadrant of the Park, is scheduled to begin on Monday August 14. At that time, the Park's upper parking lot area (at the end of Tower Road) will be temporarily closed to allow for infested tree removal.

Weather permitting, work in the area near the upper parking lot should be completed within the day and the parking lot re-opened to the public on Tuesday, August 15th.

HRM and members of the Task Force wish to thank park users for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused during this process. Please be assured that every effort continues to be made to minimize inconvenience to the public.
