Poor Water Quality Closes Three Beaches

(August 10/2001) -- Three municipally-supervised beaches remain closed to swimmers at least until Monday, when further water quality test results become available.

The beaches include Cunard Beach, off the Williams Lake Road in Halifax; Birch Cove Beach, on Lake Banook; and Shubie Park Beach in Dartmouth.

The Nova Scotia Department of the Environment, which does water quality testing for the Halifax Regional Municipality, issued the order to have the affected beaches closed to swimmers because of a high bacteria count this summer.
