(Tuesday, September 11, 2001 - 10:15 p.m.) - Halifax Regional Municipality has issued a public appeal for citizens to provide accommodation in their homes for passengers on international flights diverted to Halifax due to terrorist attacks in the United States today.

H.R.M's Emergency Measures Organization asks those citizens who have already registered to provide short-term accommodations, and those others who are willing to open their homes, to go to one of the following Emergency Accommodation Shelters to assist those requiring outside accommodations.

Participating residents are urged to register with officials at the center and to ensure that those passengers who they are transporting to their homes are also registered with Red Cross or other emergency officials.

It is important that shelter officials are advised of the names of those leaving the centers and the address and telephone number where they will be billeted.
