PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Black Rock Beach Closed to Swimmers

(Friday, December 28, 2001) - There will be no organized Polar Bear Swim this New Years's Day at Black Rock Beach in Point Pleasant Park. As a result, there will be no emergency services on site.

In addition, members of the public are advised that Black Rock Beach has been officially closed for swimming by the Nova Scotia Department of Health due to high levels of bacteria.

Although it was never a publicly-sanctioned event, the Polar Swim was organized each year by a private individual. That person advised HRM earlier this year that he would no longer be organizing the annual New Year's dip.
