Sponsor, Volunteers Come Forward to Save Natal Day Breakfast

(Wednesday, July 31/2002)-- There will be a Natal Day Breakfast in Halifax this year after all.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Halifax office of ExxonMobil Canada and an offer of volunteers to help prepare and serve the breakfast by the crew of HMCS Halifax, the popular event will be part of this year's Natal Day activities on Monday, August 5th, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The breakfast had been cancelled by the Halifax-Dartmouth Natal Day Advisory Committee earlier this year due to budgetary constraints, but thanks to the efforts of two Regional Councillors--- an alternate funding source has been identified.

Councillors Sue Uteck and Sheila Fougere issued a public appeal last Tuesday in hopes of enticing an individual, a group or a business to sponsor the popular $4,000 event. They were also hoping volunteers would step forward to help prepare and serve the food.

In short order, a sponsor and the HMCS Halifax volunteer group were in place.

Councillor Uteck said " We are very grateful to ExxonMobil Canada and HMCS Halifax for their very generous effort. The Halifax Breakfast is a tradition and Councillor Fougere and I wanted to make sure it continued. There will be a lot of happy citizens when they hear this news."

ExxonMobil Canada operates the Sable Offshore Energy Project, Canada's first offshore natural gas project, from its offices in Halifax and Goldboro, Nova Scotia.
