Committee Approves Sewage Collection System Project

(Monday, August 11, 2003)-- The Harbour Solutions Advisory Committee of Halifax Regional Council today approved the final draft agreement between HRM and Dexter Construction to build the sewage collection system (SCS) phase of the Harbour Solutions Project.

The final contract price is $115, 694,000. This is slightly less than the $116,164,000 that was approved in principle by Halifax Regional Council last month. The savings are largely related to proposed public information costs during the construction stages. HRM is assuming responsibility for that aspect of the project.

Construction is expected to start in late Summer or early Fall.

The Harbour Solutions Committee has met twice during the past few weeks to review progress in talks with Dexter. It was authorized by Regional Council last month to review, and eventually approve, the draft agreement between HRM and Dexter.

HRM staff is expected to make recommendations to regional Council in September regarding the sewage treatment plant phase of the project.
