Rogers AT&T Wireless donates $100,000 to Halifax Recovery Fund

Donation earmarked for the restoration of Point Pleasant Park

Halifax, NS, October 15, 2003 - In response to the devastation left by Hurricane Juan, Rogers AT&T Wireless today committed a minimum donation of $100,000 to the HRM Intrastructure Recovery Fund. The funds raised by Rogers AT&T Wireless will be earmarked for the restoration of Point Pleasant Park which lost close to 70 per cent of the park trees in the storm.

"Rogers AT&T Wireless is committed to assisting Halifax recover from Hurricane Juan," said Paul Kidston, General Manager, Atlantic Canada, Rogers AT&T Wireless. "We live and work in the Halifax area and we know, first hand, how special Point Pleasant Park is to local residents who enjoyed this beautiful public space. We are pleased to donate $10 per new customer activation between October 1 and December 31 to the HRM Infrastructure Recovery Fund and to know that, in this way, Rogers AT&T Wireless customers will have played a role in restoring the beauty and accessibility of Point Pleasant Park."

Rogers AT&T Wireless will collect $10 from every new customer activation in Atlantic Canada between October 1st and December 31st. In addition, Rogers AT&T Wireless will accept donations from employees and dealers, and provide in-store donation boxes for customer contributions. Rogers AT&T Wireless has committed a minimum donation of $100,000 to the HRM Infrastructure Recovery Fund.

Mayor Peter Kelly said "Point Pleasant Park has long been a popular retreat for local residents and visitors alike, and the municipality is committed to restoring it. The park suffered considerable damage as a result of Hurricane Juan, losing close to 70 per cent of its trees. We are truly appreciative of the support we have received from Rogers AT&T Wireless."
