Halifax Regional Firefighters To Be Recognized at the Legislature

(Tuesday, December 4, 2007) - Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Firefighters will be honored by Province House this morning at 11:30 a.m.

Opposition Leader Darrell Dexter will be introducing a resolution congratulating the firefighters on their acheivements during the National Combat Challenge in September. Team Halifax won seven gold medals, the first time a team has done this at Nationals. Each member of the team will recieve a personal copy of the resolution.

The Firefighters just came back from the World Firefighter Combat Challenge Competition held in LasVegas Nevada where firefighter Cyril Fraser placed 2nd in the over 50 category. In addition, the women's team of Lianne Tessier and Sherry Brown came 3rd in he NXG2 Tandem.

The Firefighter Combat Challenge is a competition based on fire fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations. The Challenge is very demanding and many participants perform at the level of elite athletes. Firefighters call it the toughest two minutes in sports.
