Red Bridge Pond Swimming Advisory

(Tuesday, June 17, 2008) - The public is advised that water test samples taken earlier this month at the inlet to Red Bridge Pond detected faecal coliform bacteria levels exceeding provincial and federal recreational guidelines. Red Bridge Pond is not an HRM supervised swimming location.

Under these conditions, swimming and other forms of contact recreation should be avoided until further notice.

HRM tests the water quality of a limited number of unsupervised lakes on a seasonal basis only. Only lakes with supervised swimming beaches are tested on a weekly basis during the swimming season. For a list of the lakes HRM tests, please check the HRM website at http://www.halifax.ca/Energy-Environment/Environment/lakesandrivers.php

The deep section of Red Bridge Pond was well within the guidelines. Additionally, Lake Micmac and Lake Banook, which are downstream of Red Bridge Pond, had no detectable faecal coliform in the samples collected.
