Cogswell Street Interchange Maintenance

(September 2, 2009) The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (NSTIR) and Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) are cost sharing the routine maintenance work on the Cogswell Street Interchange. The work has commenced and will be completed by the end of October.

• Beginning Saturday, September 5, 2009, traffic will be reduced to 1 lane in each direction on Hollis Street for pressure washing (cleaning) the underside of the structures.

• On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, the contractor will be starting the joint work on the Barrington-Hollis street Overpass structure. Traffic will be reduced to 1 lane in each direction on Barrington Street for more than a 24 hour period.

Motorists should expect additional lane & ramp closures in the near future. As these closures occur additional notification will be provided.

The project includes routine bridge maintenance on:

1. Cogswell Street Interchange Structure
2. Barrington - Hollis Street Overpass Structure - Outbound
3. Cogswell Street Eastbound Ramp 1 to Barrington Street Northbound

This bridge maintenance must be done to maintain the interchange until such time as council makes a decision about its future.
