Candles Pose Danger During Power Outages:

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency

(Thursday, September 2, 2010) - With the potential for storm conditions and power outages this weekend, Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency would like to remind residents not to use candles during a power outage.

Battery powered lighting will provide much more light during a power outage and is not a fire hazard, making it a much safer choice. Do you know where your flashlights are? Do they have charged batteries?

Also, take this opportunity to check you smoke alarms to ensure they are working and have extra batteries on hand. Only WORKING smoke alarms can warn you and your family of smoke or fire during an emergency.

Should the power to your home be interrupted during the storm and you use a portable generator as a temporary power supply, please remember to place the generator outside in a well ventilated area to avoid poisonous exhaust fumes from entering your home or building.
