Canada Games Oval Closed January 12th to 16th for Speed Skating Test Event

(January 7, 2011) A test event for long track speed skating will be held next week at the Canada Games Oval. Due to this event, the Oval will be closed from January 12th to 16th. Test events have been held over the past year for every Canada Games sport competition to test equipment and processes, and provide training to volunteers.

In order to plan and execute the long track speed skating test event, Canada Games will have exclusive use of the Canada Games Oval from January 12th to 16th. Speed skating races will take place on the 15th and 16th. The three preparation days will be used for ice maintenance, lane line painting and testing of the electronic scoring system.

Spectators are welcome to attend the test event free of charge. A full schedule of race times will be available at skatehrm.ca under the Calendar/Events listing.

The Canada Games Oval is the largest artificial ice surface east of Quebec City and will be featured as HRM’s marquee outdoor venue for the Halifax 2011 Canada Games to be held from February 11th to 27th.
