Birch Cove Beach Remains Closed

(Wednesday, July 13, 2011) – HRM would like to advise residents that Birch Cove Beach on Lake Banook in Dartmouth will remain closed to allow for further investigation.

HRM’s preliminary results for water testing, which test for Ecoli bacteria, showed levels are within normal range. Public Health Services is continuing the investigation by following up with those who reported illness to try to determine a possible cause.

HRM closed the beach yesterday as a safety precaution when lifeguard staff and swimmers reported symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, fever, stomach pains and headaches.

Residents will be notified when the beach reopens.
