HRM Staff Report Back With Polling District Boundaries Recommendations

(Friday, October 14, 2011) - An HRM staff team has completed its recommendations for boundaries for 16 electoral districts across the municipality, as per the direction of the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSUARB).

The report and recommendations are included with the Regional Council agenda for the Tuesday, Oct. 18 meeting. The staff report will be linked to the online agenda here: http://www.halifax.ca/council/agendasc/cagenda.html at 5 p.m. today.

The decision of the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to reduce the number of Districts (and Councillors) in HRM to 16 plus the Mayor for the October 2012 election was released on July 27, 2011. HRM is required to make its final submission on the boundaries to the NSUARB on Friday, October 21, 2011. The review board will also hold public hearings - starting Nov. 7, 2011- on the polling district boundaries before a final decision is made.
