Africville Road Greening Project Celebration

Monday, October 28, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – The media is invited to join Deputy Mayor Reg Rankin and Halifax Regional Council as they celebrate the conclusion of a very successful first year of tree planting in the urban core.

Dr. Martha Crago, vice president of research at Dalhousie University will also be on hand to talk about the value of the Dalhousie-HRM urban forest research partnership.

Approximately 85 trees are currently being planted along the rail line at Africville Road. It’s one of several major tree planting projects implemented in 2013 under the HRM Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP), and is being supported in part by a grant from Canadian National Railway in partnership with Tree Canada and Communities in Bloom.

By the time the last hole is dug this fall, more than 1,500 new trees will have been planted this year in five neighbourhoods across HRM.
