Apartment Fire - 20 Dawn Street, Halifax

(Sunday, February 20/05)-- Halifax Regional Fire officials have asked Nova Scotia Power to temporarily cut electricity to the Fairview area to enable fire crews to move in high-rise aerial equipment to fight an apartment fire at 20 Dawn Street.

Tenants of the building, as well as those residing in nearby apartment buildings at 15 and 16 Dawn Street, have been evacuated and taken to a temporary comfort station at the Fairview Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, corner of Main Avenue and Hillcrest Street. In total, more than 100 apartment units were evacuated.

The high-rise aerial equipment will be used to pour more water on the roof area of 20 Dawn Street, where fire broke out this mroning.
