Councillors Show Support for Local Scout’s Movement

(Monday, February 21/05)-- Dartmouth area Councillors are working together to improve infrastructure at a local regional Scout Camp in Lawrencetown.

Councillors Becky Kent, Bill Karsten, Andrew Younger, Jim Smith and Gloria McCluskey are contributing $1000 each from their District Capital Funds to the Camp Harris Committee, of Scouts Canada. Councillor David Hendsbee has already presented a cheque for $1000.

Camp Harris is a Dartmouth Regional Scout Camp, in Lawrencetown, used primarily by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers. Camp Committee Chair Gary Salkus will be accepting the cheque from HRM.

The cheque presentation marks the opening ceremony for Atlantic View Scouting Scout/Guide Week Celebrations.

Councillor Kent (Atlantic View Area Commissioner organizing the event) Becky Kent invites the media to join in the festivities, which includes a parade around Mic Mac Mall, Camp Fire Blanket competitions, and serving a birthday cake in honour of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement.
