Halifax Regional Municipality Seeking Public Input on New Sculpture
(Friday, March 4, 2005) - In 2004, the Halifax Regional Municipality’s Capital District coordinated the capital improvements to the exterior of the Halifax North Memorial Public Library. Improvements included new pathways, seating wall, light fixtures and benches. New landscaping is scheduled to be completed this spring.
As part of the improvements for the exterior of the Library, there are funds for a new art piece. The HRM is requesting public input at a public meeting being held on Thursday, March 10, 7 pm at the Library. The goal of the consultation is to develop a high level theme for artist to consider when developing ideas for the sculpture.
“This is a very important public space for the community.” states Marion Currie, Project Coordinator for the Capital District. “The Library has a long history and is considered a gathering place. This was very apparent during the exterior renovations and the interest it generated in the community.”
Patricia Sutherland, Branch Manager at the Halifax North Memorial Public Library agrees the Library plays an important role in the North End community. She states “We are very pleased to be the location for this new piece of public art and look forward to hearing the ideas and suggestions for a theme from our customers and residents.”
People from the community and surrounding area are encouraged to attend the public meeting and provide input at this planning stage.
