HRM open air burning ban still in effect

Thursday, July 26, 2012 (Halifax, NS) – HRM residents are reminded that the open air burning ban prohibiting all outdoor fires remains in effect.

All HRM burning permits for areas within the municipality are cancelled at this time. No open fires are permitted including those in approved outdoor solid fuel burning appliances (i.e. chimneas). This ban does not include the use of propane or charcoal barbecues.

Residents should be aware that any person who fails to comply with any provision of By-law O-109 may be liable to a penalty on conviction of not less than $250 and not more than $10,000. In addition to any fine imposed, the Court may order the person convicted to pay all expenses incurred in correcting the contravention of the By-law or any damages associated with such contravention.

The ban will remain in place until further notice. For more information on the open air burning ban, contact HRFE Fire Prevention services at 490-5546.
