HRM supports community litter clean-ups, reminds residents to register

Wednesday, May 9, 2012 - HRM reminds residents organizing a litter clean-up to plan ahead for collection of the waste material. While most material picked up during these clean-ups can be divided among participants and placed for curbside garbage collection (subject to the same limits and guidelines), we recognize that this isn't always possible.

Through a partnership between HRM and Clean Nova Scotia, residents of HRM can receive free collection of bagged litter from litter clean-ups. We only ask that you register your event through Clean Nova Scotia and tell them you need a pick-up of material. It is helpful to have an estimate of the quantity and type of material you expect. Clean Nova Scotia will then make arrangements for this to happen. At least one week notice is appreciated.

Registration can be done online: www.cleanacrossns.ca (click on the Great Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up link on the left menu) or by calling 420-3474 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30). Consider registering even if you do not need the material picked up as Clean Nova Scotia will send you free bags and gloves to help your efforts.

The Great Nova Scotia Pick-Me-Up is a program developed and delivered by Clean Nova Scotia. Now celebrating its 19th year, the program has evolved into a year-round initiative that supports community efforts to remove litter from our communities, parks and shorelines. You can make your cleanup as big or as small as you like and everyone can take part. We rely on individuals, businesses, schools and community groups to keep our province beautiful.
