HRM will enforce overnight winter parking ban overnight tonight

Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 (Halifax, NS) – Forecasts are calling for 5-10 cm of mixed precipitation until late this afternoon when it will turn to ice pellets or snow, depending on the elevation and what’s already on the ground in certain areas. HRM’s overnight winter parking ban will be enforced overnight tonight from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. (Thursday, Dec. 20). Please ensure your vehicle is off the street and not interfering with snow clearing operations.

The weather and snow clearing operations will dictate how long the overnight ban will be enforced. HRM will continue to notify residents when the ban is in place through Public Service Announcements, halifax.ca, 311 and you can follow us on Twitter “@hfxgov”.

Provincial legislation (Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act) provides that people remove their vehicles from the streets, day or night, in the event of a snow or ice event. Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can be removed at the owner’s cost, regardless of time or date.

HRM requests that residents remove any street obstructions whenever possible during snow clearing operations. Items such as basketball nets and organic green carts hinder proper snow clearing and can result in damage to property and equipment.

Thank you for your cooperation.
