HRM recognizes environmental stewards

during compost awareness week

Monday, May 7, 2012 - "Give Back to the Earth ... Compost!" That's the theme for this year's International Compost Awareness Week being held from May 6 to 12.

In recognition of this special week, HRM Solid Waste Resources will be rewarding residents seen properly using public spaces multi-stream separation bins. Staff will be at Mic Mac Mall on Monday, May 7 and in downtown Halifax on Wednesday, May 9. You can also visit us at the Halifax Seaport Market on Saturday, May 12 to answer all your composting questions and enter to win a composting prize pack.

Composting is a natural biological process through which organic material is converted into a soil-like product called compost. Whether you are green bin composting or backyard composting, composting diverts a resource material away from landfill disposal.
