Seaview Park to be Officially Renamed to Africville

(July 27, 2011) – On Friday, July 29th at 1 p.m., Halifax Regional Municipality, the Africville Genealogy Society and the Africville Heritage Trust will celebrate the official renaming of Seaview Park to Africville.

When: Friday, July 29, 2011 – 1 p.m. – as part of the Africville Annual Festival/Reunion

Where: Upper parking lot of Seaview Park, off Barrington Street, then off Africville Road.

Opportunity: Mayor Peter Kelly, District 11 Councillor Jerry Blumenthal, members of the Africville Heritage Trust Board, members of the Africville Genealogy Society and community members will officially rename the park to Africville and unveil the new sign.

The renaming is part of the agreement negotiated with HRM in February, 2010.

 

Attendees will then be invited to the picnic grounds for celebratory cake.
