Mayor Kelly extends best wishes to local Olympic medalist
Monday, May 14, 2012 – Mayor Peter Kelly, on behalf of Halifax Regional Council, would like to wish every success to local Paralympic sailor and gold medalist, Paul Tingley, who is heading to England this week to begin training for the London 2012 Paralympics.
“Mr. Tingley is a highly accomplished international athlete whose enthusiasm for life is an inspiration,” said Mayor Kelly. “It is my sincere hope that he achieves his dream at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.”
Paul Tingley is a Canadian Paralympic sailor, particularly of keelboats. He shared a bronze medal for Sailing at the Sydney 2000 Summer Paralympics as a part of the Canadian Sonar team, participated in the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games, and won a gold medal for Sailing at the Beijing 2008 Summer Paralympics in the 2.4m class. He also won a bronze medal at the 2009 2.4m World Championships (Fort Myers, Florida) and a gold at the 2010 World Championship (Hoorn, Netherlands) competing against both able-bodied and disabled sailors.
