Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency to Hold Firefighter Memorial Service

(Wednesday, May 2, 2012) - Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency would like to invite members of the public to its inaugural Atlantic Canada Firefighter Memorial Service. The event will take place on Sunday, May 6 and will honour all firefighters in Atlantic Canada.

Firefighters from the Atlantic Provinces will assemble at Saunders Park (corner of Connaught Avenue and Chebucto Road), and march down Chebucto Road to St. Agnes Church (corner of Chebucto Road and Mumford Road) for the 2 p.m. church service.

Participating in the ceremony will be members of the Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, Atlantic Canada’s fire departments, Halifax International Airport, Halifax DND and 14 Wing Greenwood.

Motorists are advised there will be some traffic impacts during this time. Mumford Road will be closed between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. during the parade from Chebucto Road to Stuart Graham Drive. Chebucto Road from Connaught Avenue to Mumford Road will be reduced to two lanes between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. The parade will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. and three firefighting apparatus will be parked on Chebucto Road in front of St. Agnes Church until 4 p.m. (during the service & reception).

HRM apologizes for any delays this may cause.

Firefighters cannot do their jobs without the support from members of the public who want to do their part in making our communities a safer place. This service provides an opportunity for the public and firefighters to join together to honour and show support for their dedication.
