Peggy’s Cove to Celebrate
200th Anniversary with Symphony Performance
(Tuesday, September 20, 2011) – An hour-long symphony performance with a fireworks finale will mark the 200th anniversary celebrations for Peggy’s Cove at a free outdoor event this Saturday. The Peggy’s Cove Bicentennial Celebration Committee, Symphony Nova Scotia and HRM Civic Events have partnered to organize an evening of entertainment reflective of the village’s scenic, maritime community.
"The symphony has carefully selected pieces that will appeal to listeners as being symbolic of this prime, rustic attraction,” explains John Campbell, Chair of the Peggy’s Cove Bicentennial Celebration Committee. “Guests will be charmed by the works of legendary composers, guaranteed to captivate the audience and create a sense of warmth and community.”
The Symphony Nova Scotia ROCKS Peggy’s Cove show is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th with a suggested arrival time of 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Peter Kelly described Peggy’s Cove as one of the unique treasures of the region.
"It’s an area of great natural beauty and charm,” said Mayor Kelly. “We congratulate the residents on this milestone anniversary and thank them for enriching our region with their culture, history and sense of community.”
Event organizers would like to advise that parking in the area is limited and people are asked to please car pool if possible. There are parking lots located at a further distance from the event site that will be serviced by a bus shuttle from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. And, as the show is an outdoor event, spectators are required to bring their own chair.
Rain or shine, organizers are advising people to check www.halifax.ca/events or call 490-6776 before leaving to check on event status. It is also requested that those interested in attending please visit www.peggyscove.org or call 490-4782 to RSVP.
