Councillor Reg Rankin voted Deputy Mayor

 

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 (Halifax, NS) – District 12 Councillor Reg Rankin was voted in by his Council peers today to serve as Deputy Mayor for Halifax Regional Municipality.


The new Deputy Mayor takes over from Deputy Mayor Bill Karsten who held the position for a one-year term.


“I appreciate the vote of confidence from my colleagues and will continue to represent the residents of District 12 while enjoying this new challenge and opportunity,” Deputy Mayor Rankin said.

Deputy Mayor Rankin has been a member of Regional Council since the formation of HRM in 1996, and served as a Councillor for the former Halifax County Council beginning in 1991. A native of Mabou, Cape Breton, the Deputy Mayor has lived in Timberlea for 26 years.

Prior to becoming a Councillor, Deputy Mayor Rankin worked in business education and served as Director of Finance for the Municipality of Inverness County.
