PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Demolition and Reconstruction of the

Beaverbank Kinsac Community Centre Poised to Start

(Thursday, July 28th, 2011) – Security fencing and a work trailer on site will signal the beginning of demolition work on the remains of the Beaverbank Kinsac Community Centre.

The facility was devastated by a fire in September 2009. Construction of the new $7 million Community Centre/Fire Station will begin in August 2011, once the demolition has been completed. It is anticipated that the new facility will be finished in spring 2012.

Thanks, in part, to public consultation, the new Community Centre/Fire Station design will be approximately 4,365 square feet larger which will better serve community requirements. The need to increase program requirements and address a number of deficiencies in the original facility has been recognized. These issues include security, building layout, air conditioning and fire suppression systems. The new facility will also be more accessible and energy efficient.

The Community Centre will feature: a multi-purpose room, kitchen, youth/ seniors program space, board room and children's programming space.

The Fire Services support area will include a training room, dormitory, training office and kitchen.
