Road construction – Lower Water Street at Sackville Street
Thursday, June 21, 2012 - Halifax Water and their contractor have set up a work site at Lower Water Street at Sackville Street to repair a sinkhole. At this time, it is unclear how large the excavation will be.
Currently, Sackville Street is closed from Bedford Row to Lower Water Street to facilitate the excavation. Motorists headed eastbound on Sackville Street past Hollis Street will be detoured on to Bedford Row. Lower Water Street is still open to traffic; one lane northbound.
Pedestrians should take note that the marked crosswalk on Lower Water Street at the north side of Sackville Street is temporarily closed (and signed accordingly), however traffic control personnel are on site at the south side of the intersection to assist pedestrians across the street away from the excavation.
This work is likely to extend into the evening rush hour. More details will be provided as the work progresses. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible.
HRM apologizes for any inconvenience these delays may cause.
