Rural Route/City Route community art project

Halifax Regional Municipality invites you to view the full series of artwork created as part of artist Julie Adamson Miller’s community art project, Rural Route/City Route. The project, which connected the communities of Dartmouth and Sheet Harbour through an artwork exchange, is supported by HRM Open Projects: Community Art.

Julie Adamson Miller partnered with many artists in both communities to host workshops that had youth, seniors and artists from Dartmouth and Sheet Harbour create art that reflected their experience of rural or city living. The artwork was then ‘mailed’ to the other community, arriving in one of two mailboxes for the community to open and discover.

The Dartmouth artwork will be on display at the Woodlawn Library, December 8-15. The Dartmouth community is invited to meet the head artist, Julie Adamson Miller at the Wrapping Party, December 15 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., during which time they can help wrap up the artwork and decide who in the community the will receive it.

Sheet Harbour will exhibit their entire community series at the Sheet Harbour Library, December 11-19. The Sheet Harbour community is also invited to meet Julie Adamson Miller and take part in their Wrapping Party on December 19 from 3 – 8 p.m.
