Fire in community of Purcell’s Cove contained in Williams Lake area

Monday, May 21, 2012 – The fire burning in the community of Purcell’s Cove is not yet “under control” but is now contained in the Williams Lake area.

The Fire Incident Commander has amended the evacuation order and effective 9 p.m., residents may return to their homes under the following conditions:

  • Residents must be prepared to re-evacuate within 30 minutes if a flare-up were to reoccur

  • Residents must have an emergency kit ready by their front door

  • The emergency kit must contain any essential medication and supplies for all family members including pets

  • The supplies in the kit must be able to sustain all family members and pets for 72 hours

HRM and Emergency Health Services will continue to monitor the scene. Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency and the Department of Natural Resources will reassess the area at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, May 22.
