Halifax Art Boat ready to launch

Friday, July 11, 2014 (Halifax, NS) - The Halifax Art Boat is ready to launch after seven months of hands-on construction and painting.

This Community Art project was built by nearly 200 volunteers as a visual and performance arts space. The boat will be open to host community-driven workshops, gallery shows, events, projects, and artist residencies.

The launch ceremony will begin tomorrow, Saturday, July 12 from approximately 1:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in front of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on the Halifax waterfront. The free celebration promises to be a fun-filled event with family friendly activities.

Integral support for the project has been given by the Halifax Regional Municipality, which donated plywood, tools, paint, other materials, and staff support; the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which loaned the project their boat-building shed over the winter, and the expertise of their master boat builder; and Waterfront Development, which have offered one year complimentary mooring on the Halifax waterfront.
