HRM motorists are reminded to avoid parking in bike lanes

Thursday, August 2, 2012 (Halifax, NS) – HRM motorists are reminded that parking in a bike lane is prohibited by Section 43 (2) of the Motor Vehicle Act, as of June 1, 2011. Recently, HRM parking enforcement have received a number of complaints in the area of St. Margaret’s Bay Road near Long Lake, between the North West Arm overpass and Prospect Road.

Motorists are reminded that they must share the road with cyclists and park their vehicles completely outside of the bike lane to avoid being ticketed. Fines for parking in a bike lane start at $25 and increase to $57.96 if unpaid after 60 days.

To report a parking violation contact the HRM Call Centre at 490-4000.
