HRM’s Overnight Winter Parking Ban Remains In Effect

Thursday, March 15, 2012 – HRM’s winter operations crews will continue to clean up the side streets and streets in the Capital District tonight. The overnight winter parking ban will remain in effect overnight tonight from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. (Friday, March 16). Please ensure your vehicle is off the street and not interfering with snow clearing operations.

The weather and snow clearing operations will dictate how long the overnight ban will remain in effect. HRM will notify residents when it has been lifted through Public Service Announcements, halifax.ca, 490-4000 and you can follow us on Twitter “@hfxgov”.

Provincial legislation (Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act) provides that people remove their vehicles from the streets, day or night, in the event of a snow or ice event. Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can be removed at the owner’s cost, regardless of time or date.

HRM requests that residents remove any street obstructions whenever possible during snow clearing operations. Items such as basketball nets and organic green carts hinder proper snow clearing and can result in damage to property and equipment.

HRM thanks you for your cooperation.
