Mayor Fitzgerald Resting Comfortably in the QE11 Health Sciences Centre

(Thursday, February 11/99)-- Mayor Walter Fitzgerald continues to convalesce in the QE11 health Sciences Centre and is likely to remain there for the next few days.

Mayor Fitzgerald returned to Halifax on Tuesday after experiencing mild chest pains in Mexico City over the weekend. The Mayor was co-leading a Nova Scotia/HRM trade mission of more than 40 local companies and businesses to the city and state of Campeche in southeastern Mexico.

"Just tell everyone that I'm feeling much better and I look forward to getting out of hospital soon," the Mayor said from his hospital room this afternoon.

The Mayor will remain in hospital for observation and his condition is being assessed by medical staff at the QE 11.

The Fitzgerald Family has requested the media to respect their privacy at this time and reporters are requested to contact John O'Brien, HRM Corporate Communications Officer, at 490-6531, for any further updates or other inquiries regarding the Mayor's stay in the QE 11 Health Sciences Centre.
