Joint Task Force to Meet in Halifax

(Friday, June 2/2000)-- Federal, provincial and municipal representatives from various departments and agencies will meet in Halifax on Monday, June 5, to establish a Joint Task Force on the Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle.

The officials are expected to select a Task Force chair, and possibly two alternates or co-chairs, from among the various groups involved in the project. In addition, they will be sharing information gathered to date and discussing possible future options to dealing with the beetle infestation at the Park.

This first meeting will serve as the foundation to developing a final strategy for dealing with dead or dying infested Red Spruce trees and the remaining healthy stock.

There will be a brief photo opportunity at the start of the meeting and a Task Force spokesperson will be available for comment following the meeting.

When: Monday, June 5, 2000

Where: Pt. Pleasant Maintenance Building, Point Pleasant Drive (near the intersection of Young Avenue)
