Positive Identification of Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle on Private Property

(Tuesday, June 6/2000) - Halifax Regional Municipality and Canadian Food Inspection Agency officials today confirmed the positive identification of a Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle adult on a single tree located on private property along the North West Arm, a short distance from the Point Pleasant Park boundaries.

The discovery was made as part of the surveys being conducted on properties located near the Park boundaries. To protect the privacy of the property owner, the civic address of the discovery site cannot not be released to the media.

The matter has been referred to the Joint Task Force on the Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle Infestation and will be dealt with as part of the Point Pleasant Park team project.
