Communities in Bloom Judges to Arrive
(Tuesday, July 25/2000)--The national jury for the annual "Communities in Bloom" competition arrive in Halifax tomorrow for two days of judging.
HRM is a finalist, along with Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal and Laval in the large city category (over 300,000). Winners will be announced at the National Awards Ceremonies, to be held September 28-30 in Edmonton. HRM hosted last year's National Awards and Canadian Parks Symposium.
Communities in Bloom provides an opportunity for communities across Canada to compete in a challenge of beautification, tidiness and community pride.
The competition brings together individuals and people from community organizations, institutes and corporations. Judging covers tidiness, turf areas, environmental efforts, urban forestry, heritage preservation and community involvement.
The judges for the large city category include Dirk Oostindie, of Vancouver, and Sherry Berg, of Ottawa.
The judges will visit a number of public, private, institutional and business properties and sites throughout HRM.
