Metro Transit Launches First Accessible Low Floor (ALF) Buses East of Montreal

Metro Transit is pleased to announce that beginning Sunday, August 27th, full operation of new Accessible Low Floor (ALF) buses will be introduced into regularly scheduled bus service on the routes #3 Manors and #7 Robie/Gottingen.

These buses feature "no steps entry / exit" and wheelchair ramps which extend to curb level providing easier access for all passengers. Each bus is equipped with flip-up seats to accommodate two regular size wheelchairs (no more than 30" wide, 48" long). The low floor feature is designed to assist people who use walkers or who have mobility challenges. Passengers must be able to board the bus, deposit their fare, and depart the bus independently and safely. Passengers using wheelchairs must ensure their wheelchair is positioned properly, so as to be secured in the tie-down system. Those who require assistance in boarding must be accompanied by a companion.

The traveling public will be able to recognize the ALF buses by the blue International Symbol for Accessibility, which will appear on all four sides of the bus. Each designated ALF bus stop along routes #3 and #7 will also display the symbol.

The public is invited to view and find out more information about the new ALF buses which will be on display at the following locations in August:

Wednesday, August 16 Scotia Square, Barrington/Duke 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Friday, August 18 Spring Garden Road/South Park Street 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
