Advance Turn Signal to Make Intersection Safer

(Tuesday, August 29/2000)-- The final phase of installation of advance flashing green turn signals will go into operation tomorrow at the intersection of Lady Hammond Road and Windsor Street in Halifax's north end.

District 11 Councillor Jerry Blumenthal said that motorists travelling on all streets leading into the high-traffic intersection will now have the advantage of advance left-turn traffic signals. Windsor Street, Lady Hammond Road, the Fairview Overpass and approaches/off ramps to the A. Murray MacKay Bridge intersect at this point.

"This intersection is one of the busiest and some say, at times, one of the most dangerous in the north end. Installation of the final set of advance turn signals will now make it safer for motorists travelling from the north end to Windsor Street and beyond," he said.

Councillor Blumenthal will officially turn the switch tomorrow morning to put the new traffic signals into operation.
