Memorial Grove Dedicated to Local Inventor/Industrialist

(Tuesday, September 12/2000)-- A local industrial leader of his time will be honored this Friday at a memorial grove dedication ceremony at the Chain Lake Park in Armdale.

E. Lawson Fenerty (1843-1932) resided in the Armdale Area and was an early manufacturer and inventor of this District. He founded the Halifax Shovel Company around the turn of the century. It was located at the head of Chocolate Lake and depended on its available water supply to successfully operate the manufacturing plant.

The request for this memorial grove was initiated several years ago by former Councillor Ron Hanson, who wanted to recognize the outstanding efforts of one of our forefathers in the Armdale area.

A small bronze plaque will be placed on a granite boulder in a small grove of trees at the edge of Chain Lake Park . The trees were planted about two years ago through the Parks Civic Support program.

When: Friday, September 15/2000

Where: From the Armdale Rotary, take the St. Margaret's Bay Road to Fenerty Road, then to Coronation, and travel to the end of the road.

Time: 2 p.m.
