Media Invited to "Exercise spreadSheet"

(Tuesday, September 12/2000)-- Volunteers from the Sheet Harbour Station of Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service are teaming up with several other agencies this weekend to conduct an emergency response exercise.

Code-named "Exercise spreadSheet", this exercise will test how well local agencies and resource teams work together- as well as with outside agencies who respond to a request for assistance.

This emergency planning training exercise will replicate an incident which could happen in any community, at any time.

The exercise will be one of the largest field exercises ever held in HRM-- as well as being staged the furthest from the urban core. It will enable the municipality to practice/evaluate its emergency response plan, and identify where and how improvements can make it more effective.

More than 10 emergency response agencies will be participating in Exercise spreadSheet. Each agency will be able to evaluate its own emergency plans and test internal/external communications.

The exercise will run from 9:30 a.m. until approximately noon. Photo opportunities will be made available for interested and registered media. Media must register prior to 12 noon, Friday, September 15, by contacting Louise MacDonald, EMO(NS), Exercise spreadSheet Media Relations Officer at 424-0284 or by email at: macdonlo@gov.ns.ca .
