(Friday, November 3/2000)-- Mayor-Elect Peter Kelly, members of Halifax Regional Council and members of the Halifax Regional School Board will be officially sworn-in at a joint ceremony at the regular meeting of Council next Tuesday.
There are a small number of reserved seats available for members of the media covering the session and a media staging area has been designated for photographers and video camera persons.
Doors to the theatre at Alderney Landing will be open to the public, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Members of the media are asked to be in place no later than 5:50 p.m. Your co-operation would be much appreciated.
Representatives of the RCMP and the official Honour Guards of both the Halifax Regional Police and the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service will participate in the ceremony.
Master of Ceremonies for the event will be The Honourable Alan Abraham, former Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia. Music will be provided by members of the C.P. Allen High School Band.
The Honourable Justice Suzanne Hood, a former municipal solicitor for the City of Dartmouth, will officially swear-in Mayor-Elect Kelly and members of Halifax Regional Council. The Honourable Justice A. David MacAdam, a former chair of the Halifax School Board, will officially swear-in members of the Halifax Regional School Board.
Among those invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony are Premier John Hamm; Municipal Relations Minister Angus MacIsaac; the 17 MLAs who represent constituencies within the HRM; and former living Mayors/Wardens of the former cities of Halifax and Dartmouth, the Town of Bedford and the former Municipality of the County of Halifax.
