Plaque to Commemorate City Hall
(Tuesday, November 28/2000)-- Mayor Peter Kelly will unveil a plaque commemorating historic City Hall at a special ceremony this afternoon at the front entrance to the building in Grand Parade.
Also participating in the ceremony will be Edmund Morris, Chair of the Halifax Foundation; Jack Keith, Chair of the HRM Millennium Committee, and James Cowan, QC, Chair of the Board of Governors of Dalhousie University.
City Hall, which officially opened in 1889, was built on the site of the original Dalhousie Medical School, which was opened in 1868. The plaque, which is part of the Legacy Program of the HRM Millennium Committee, marks the long-standing relationship between the former City of Halifax and the university.
The media is invited to attend the ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at approximately 4:45 p.m. near the front steps of City Hall.
