Regional Council Seeks Public Input During Budget Review

(Thursday, March 1/2001)-- Mayor Peter Kelly said today Council and staff are looking forward to written responses from the public regarding the proposed 2001/2002 Capital and Operating Budgets for the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Mayor Kelly and Members of Regional Council have asked for public input as they prepare to debate Budget issues at a series of afternoon sessions Monday to Friday (March 5-9) next week. These sessions are open to the public.

"After all, the funds that we propose to spend belong to the taxpayers of this municipality, so it is only fitting that citizens have an opportunity to tell us how, and where, they feel the priorities should be, " the Mayor said.

Mayor Kelly and Councillors advise citizens that copies of the proposed Budget are available for viewing by the public at all branches of the Halifax Regional Library Service and at all HRM customer service Storefront locations.

Those locations include:

Lower Level, Scotia Square, Halifax
2nd floor, Alderney Gate, Dartmouth
636 Sackville Drive, Acadia School, Sackville
2750 Dutch Village Rd., former County of Halifax Building, Halifax
2nd floor, Cole Harbour Place, Cole Harbour
Musquodoboit Harbour, Community Services Office

The Budget document is also available for viewing on the municipality's's website www.halifax.ca. A special comments form is provided.

In addition, submissions can be forwarded to the Office of the Municipal Clerk at City Hall, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax, N.S. B3J 3A5 or by fax (902) 490-4208.
