Safe Water Supplies Topic of Conference

(Tuesday, May 8/2001)-- "Planning for Safe Water Supplies" is the theme is this year's annual spring conference of the Nova Scotia Planning Directors Association, beginning Thursday at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax.

Officials from the Halifax Regional Water Commission and HRM's Harbour Solutions Project will be among delegates attending the two-day sessions.

The conference is intended to educate/inform delegates about water sources in Nova Scotia and how effective land-use planning can assisting in keeping water supplies safe.

The keynote address, entitled "The Canadian Picture and the Nova Scotia Scene" will be given by Dr. Alfonso Rivera, of the Geological Survey of Canada; and Kate Moir, of the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour, at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 10th.

James Hannam, Chief Engineer, Public Works, with the Halifax Regional Water Commission, will address the conference on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. His topic is entitled, "The Five Components of Water Quality."
