Phase 2 of Ferry Terminal Park to Begin

(Thursday, June 28/2001)-- Ferry Terminal Park in Dartmouth will be closed to the public for the next two months to allow construction on Phase 2 of a major upgrading and improvement program to the popular site.

The park is located to the south of the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal, and includes the Peace Pavilion. Phase I of the project, which cost $80,000 , saw the installation of a new nautical theme play boat.

Phase 2, which will cost $150,000, is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 3rd and be completed by the end of August. Work includes new pathways, new lighting, and installation of new park benches.

Additional phases, including a lighthouse and whale pod, will be completed as funds become available.

Funding for the project is being provided by The Kiwanis Club of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation, Nova Scotia Community ACCESS-ability Program, Halifax Regional Municipality, Waterfront Development Corporation, Royal Bank of Canada (Portland Street Branch), Sperry and Partners, and the Downtown Dartmouth Development Corporation.
