Ferry Terminal Park Construction Delayed

(Thursday, July 5/2001)-- The start of construction for Phase II of the Ferry Terminal Park rejuvenation project in Dartmouth has been postponed until September 17, 2001.

As a result, the Park will be open to the public and will be able to accommodate the various events scheduled there for the remainder of the summer.

It had been announced earlier that Ferry Terminal Park would be closed to the public for the months of July and August to allow the $150,000 , Phase 2 of the project to be completed. Work will include new pathways, new lighting, and installation of new park benches. However, due to certain unforeseen circumstances, the work had to be delayed.

In the meantime, the area around the new playboat area will be dressed- up to allow for convenient pedestrian access and play on the structure.

The official opening of Phase 1, worth approximately $80,000, will be combined with the Phase II Opening.

Funding for the project is being provided by The Kiwanis Club of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation, Nova Scotia Community ACCESS-ability Program, Halifax Regional Municipality, Waterfront Development Corporation, Royal Bank of Canada (Portland Street Branch), Sperry and Partners, and the Downtown Dartmouth Development Corporation.
