All HRM Supervised Beaches Open

(August 10/2001) - All supervised municipal beach sites within Halifax Regional Municipality are open.

Cunard Beach, off the Williams Lake Road in Halifax; Birch Cove Beach, on Lake Banook; and Shubie Park Beach in Dartmouth, were closed to swimmers late last week because of poor water quality.

The Nova Scotia Department of the Environment, which does water quality testing for the Halifax Regional Municipality, ordered the affected beaches closed to swimmers because of a high bacteria count this summer.

(Note: Media inquiries regarding testing procedures or water quality should be directed to the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment. Thank you.)
